Because of the occasional long distance runs it had to be comfortable. This again indicated the maximum wheel size (you don't want the shock from dropping into potholes on London streets!). Also, it needed rear suspension and a comfortable saddle for the same reason.

We wanted to be able to deal with occasional severe hills, so a 7 speed option was selected, and for the ultimate shift quality premium brand gears were chosen (Shimano and SRAM, rather than cheaper alternatives). As a reference, if you happen to call Devon or Cornwall - "home", you'll be fine, as the lowest gear is a 34 tooth sprocket. If you're technically inclined, that's 28.24 gear inches! Also, you can accelerate smartly away from the lights in London traffic!

The bike had to fold quickly and this can be managed in about 15 seconds. For this reason, we chose not to have pannier bags or a parcel rack (when you're running for a train you don't have time to fiddle with these things - a small backpack is ideal!).

It had to be suitable for some of our six feet plus drivers but also capable of quick adjustment down to those of more modest proportions.

The bike weighs in at 12.9 kgs. It could have been made lighter, but only by compromising on strength and durability.
